What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called the “double chin”, by physically destroying fat cells. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic aside, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Fat cleared from the treatment area is processed through your body’s natural metabolism.

Am I a good candidate for KYBELLA®?

If you are bothered by the fat under your chin (submental fat), feel that it makes you look older and heavier than you actually are, don’t want to have surgery, and eat well and exercise then KYBELLA® would be a great treatment option for you.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. R.N. Robin will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submittal fat and your personal treatment goals. Each KYBELLA® session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatments.

What is the recovery from KYBELLA®?

The recovery time frame is negligible to minimal. You will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. Most patients return to work right after their treatment, while a few might observe some swelling or slight bruising which resolves within a week. You may be advised to wear a hat for protection from sunlight and use very little makeup for the first 10 days.

How long will the results last?

Since KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells, once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected.
